Meet The Coaches

Laurie Geist - TA Master Club Professional.

Laurie decided to take up a coaching career relatively late in life at the age of 34 after playing A grade club tennis for several years and being made redundant from numerous roles and companies in the manufacturing industry. He is currently a TA Master Club Professional completing the course in Dec 2011 after being a TCA Level II Coach and On-Court Assessor for TCA. He coached and ran the Norfolk Island Tennis Centre (Cheryl Tennis Club) from 2000 – 2003 coaching the N.I. Tennis Team for the 2001 South Pacific Mini Games, as well as touring with their elite juniors through Fiji and Australia. He is also a qualified Line Umpire and has officiated at 10 Australian Opens including 2 x Men’s, and 3 x Women’s Finals as well as travelling to the US to officiate at the 2013 US Open.

His teaching philosophy is to coach students at any age using the most up to date techniques for; strokes, fitness, footwork and psychological fundamentals so that they have the best possible chance to achieve their playing potential and enjoyment of the sport he loves.

Ben Geist - TCA Level 1 Coach.

Ben has been involved with Tennis for most of his life, being coached from a young age and then playing in the local junior competitions as well as tournaments around the state.  After finishing school in 2004, he began assisting Laurie with coaching and running holiday clinics. He completed his TCA Level 1 (TA Junior Development) qualification in 2005 and has been coaching continually on a part time basis since then. He is also a qualified “A” grade line umpire officiating at the highest level of the game, calling the lines at the Men’s Final of the Australian Open in 2013. With 10 years of experience, Ben’s youthful energy and rapport with the students are his strengths. He has an excellent understanding of how the HotShots™ program operates and how important it is to teaching kids not only how to hit but how to play. He is also experienced in running the *NEW* CardioTennis™ Program which Laurie has introduced over the past 12 months and has a good understanding of personal training/fitness, as he has completed the first stages of a Personal Trainers Course (Cert. III Fitness).
